In our cold Alberta weathers, insulation is extremely important to allow for efficient heating and cooling flow in your house. While insulation seems quite straightforward, there are actually many types of insulation for different areas of your build. Insulation is not all made the same - the ones with higher R-value, like spray foam, can give you a stronger insulation without the thickness. Good insulation will help your home become energy efficient and save you $$$ in the cold winter months. It'll not only increase the comfort of your home, but will also help keep the heat out in the summer times.
DRYWALLS EDMONTON has been insulating houses in the Edmonton, Sherwood Park, Leduc, Nisku, Saint Alberta, and surrounding areas for years and have extensive experience on which type of insulation to choose for best coverage and protection of heat flow in your home. We'll help you choose the best type for your budget. Call us today and let us solve your insulation problems!
Types of Insulation:
1. Rolls and Batts
These blanket-type insulations are flexible and perfect for filling the space between the wall studs that set the foundation to your drywalls. They're made from durable yet flexible materials like rock wool or fibreglass, and provide superior coverage and insulation for walls and attics.
2. Loose-Filled Insulation
This type of insulation is free-formed, which make them the best option to fill spaces with no standard shape. Some places this type of insulation works well is in spaces like odd-sized cavities (think the adjacent roofs where it is difficult to lay down rolls of insulation). Loose-filled insulation is made of rock-wool, fibreglass, and/or loose fibres and are blown out from a pump. Because of the very nature of installation, breathing-protective equipment like masks should always be worn when carrying out this service.
3. Foam-in-Place Insulation
This type of insulation comes in two types (closed-cell and open-cell) and is typically blown into walls from small pressurized cans. These are a great option to seal small cracks and spaces like windows, door frames, or electrical and plumbing joints in the wall.
Open-cell foam has more air in it, which makes the insulation less dense. Closed-cell foam on the other hand is much more dense as it is filled with gas that helps the foam thicken, which makes it more effective to use it in exterior facing walls.
4. Rigid Foam Insulation
Like Rolls and Batts, this type of insulation also comes in a rolled form, but is much thicker and provide great protection for areas that tend to be colder like exterior walls and basements. These are almost two times thicker than your regular Rolls and Batt insulators.
